A Father’s Story by Andre Dubus @ Narrative
In Andre Dubus’s work the reader doesn’t so much experience the actions of his characters, but rather their intense emotions. Unlike minimalist, such as Hemingway or Carver, Dubus takes the reader step by step through his characters thoughts and feelings. The reader comes to understand that for most of Dubus’s characters it is an emotional, and more likely a spiritual journey that each character must undertake if they hope to move forward with their lives. Dubus infuses his characters with life not by their actions alone, but more importantly by how they respond to these actions.
